Staff Writer, Tokyo, Full-time
Fast Train Media is looking for a full-time writer to join our team in Tokyo. The successful candidate will work primarily on Tokyo Cheapo and Japan Cheapo, creating and updating a wide range of content – everything from travel features to hotel reviews, tour listings and more.

Location: Tokyo based, flexible remote work
Starting rate: ¥320,000 / month plus annual bonus (after 1 year)
Term: Initial 3 month trial, thereafter annual contract review and renewal
Start Date: August or later 2024
Note: This is a full-time, remote position, but the candidate is required to be based in or at least near Tokyo. The candidate must have a valid Japanese work visa, or be a holder of permanent residency or citizenship.
Responsibilities
- Create new content for both websites, working closely with the editor-in-chief
- Update existing content with SEO best practices in mind
- Working on commercial (advertiser) projects
- Though not the primary focus of the role, some editing may be required
- The role necessitates some travel
Job Requirements
- Native-level English proficiency
- 1-3 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong writing and editing skills; we chase squeaky clean copy
- Keen eye for detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Self motivated and organized
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Advantageous
- Background in journalism or communications
- Copywriting experience
- Experience with affiliate integration and content development
- Experience with sponsored content
- Japanese-language ability (N2 or higher)
- Experience with task management tools & team communication platforms like Asana and Slack
- Basic knowledge of HTML
